ARMAGEDDON

In probably the finest effects shot of the entire film, Paris gets nailed with an enormous chunk of asteroid, destroying the entire city in a dazzling display of light and movement. The earth that rises in a circular pattern around ground zero was created by detonating a huge, flat area of earth with sequential charges laid out in a circular pattern. Dream Quest then composited the footage over plate photography of Paris, whose buildings were destroyed by Dream Quest's CG team, using satellite imagery of Paris to create an accurate 3D environment. Matte World Digital provided this stunning shot of the Paris aftermath. The shot is a digital matte painting, with an aerial photograph of Paris as a basis, with CG smoke and fire.
