An Open Letter To The Effects Industry
By Todd Vaziri

First of all, I would like to thank all of the people in the effects industry who have given me their comments about the VFX HQ. I have been sent very supportive mail from employees of Dream Quest, Digital Domain, Pixar, Warner Digital and Boss, just to name a few. I truly appreciate your support, and am very sensitive to your needs. The whole point of the VFX HQ is to give more exposure to you, the talented and hard-working people of the industry.

As you know, I am not affiliated with any particular effects house or movie studio. I am a children's software animator who thought the web could use something like the VFX HQ; a place where anybody with an interest in visual effects can learn more about the people and companies behind them. With only a few clicks, a person can see who created the effects for their favorite summer film, or find the phone number to a certain effects company.

I made the VFX HQ with the hope of 100% accuracy. This, of course, is almost impossible, but I try very hard to make sure that everything is completely accurate. If there are inaccuracies within these pages, my e-mail address is listed at the bottom of every single page of the VFX HQ. Feel free to drop me a line and tell me what needs fixing. Those of you who have written me know that I write back quickly and make the changes within 24 hours.

Accuracy is especially difficult for films that have not yet been released. I live here in Chicago, far from the Hollywood scene. I have many contacts in the effects industry, but it is always difficult to get information on a film that won't be released for another six months or so.

If I know for a fact that a certain company will be working on a film, I will list that company, with the disclaimer, "Credits Not Complete". This is especially important for such productions as STAR TREK: FIRST CONTACT, which could use as many as 10 effects houses; some for 100 shots, others for less than a dozen. Until the film is in release, the list will not be final. If I exclude an effects house from the list, it is not intentional. Please notify me, and I will add it immediately.

The bottom line? The VFX HQ is here to give the industry exposure. I am a huge fan of visual effects, and I have created this site with a true love for the art of effects and a genuine respect for those who create fantastic images.

As always, your comments are welcome. Please e-mail me at tvaziri@gmail.com.

Very Sincerely,
Todd Vaziri
Producer, VFX HQ
