DD Teams Up with MGM
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Digital Domain has committed to producing visual effects for a series of movies produced by MGM. The relationship could eventually lead to joint projects between the effects house and the studio.

Effects Legend Linwood Dunn Dies
One of the most influential and respected effects artists in the motion picture industry, Linwood Dunn made his mark on the medium with with his significant contributions to the art of film illusion. Honored with many awards, such as the Academy's Gordon E. Sawyer Award, Dunn contributed to countless films, such as CITIZEN KANE, KING KONG, "Star Trek" and AIRPORT. He was 94.




Microsoft Sells Softimage to Avid
JUNE 15, 1998

Four years after the software giant Microsoft purchased the 3D animation system Softimage, it is giving it up. In a deal valued at $285 million, MS has sold Softimage to Avid Technology.
