ILM, DRAGONHEART Awarded

The First Annual Hollywood Film Festival will give its Best Visual Effects award of 1996 to the makers of DRAGONHEART, which contained visual effects by Industrial Light & Magic, supervised by Scott Squires.

DRAGONHEART TO RECEIVE THE HOLLYWOOD DIGITAL AWARD AT THE FIRST ANNUAL HOLLYWOOD FILM FESTIVAL

Los Angeles, 10/16/97 - Lena Evans, a co-chair for The First Annual Hollywood Film Festival and Caliban Filmworks' Executive Vice President announced today that DRAGONHEART will be honored with HFF's Hollywood Digital Award. The award will be presented by Academy Award-winning visual effects visionary Richard Edlund during the HFF Discovery Awards Gala, Oct. 18, at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood.

"The selection process included more finalists than we originally anticipated, but when all the votes were tallied, Dragonheart was the clear winner," stated Evans. "This is one of the very few awards that honors digital visual effects and highlights the importance of cutting edge film technology." In addition to DRAGONHEART, other nominated finalists included INDEPENDENCE DAY, JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH, MARS ATTACKS!, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE and TWISTER.

Designed to honor the feature film of the year that best exemplifies excellence in digital visual effects, the Hollywood Digital Award is given to the film's visual effects supervisor/team and producer. According to Evan's, DRAGONHEART's visual effects supervisor Scott Squires will be on hand to receive the award. Produced by Raffaella DeLaurentiis, the film's visual effects producer was Judith Weaver.
